FINAL

YEAR

PROJECT

Hi! Welcome to the website of my Final Year Project.

What is “FYP"?

FYP stands for Final Year Project. Many colleges require their senior students to complete a final year project before they graduate.

Although it is not compulsory in my programme – BA in Translation and Interpretation at City University of Hong Kong, I decided to spend some credits on this project as I believe this is the best way to showcase what I have learnt throughout all these years.

While many students usually conduct a research on a certain topic, as a translation student, I have done a translation of a passage along with a commentary to explain my translation techniques.

Strategy

Before translating a text, translators used to identify the genre and the “skopos" (i.e. purpose) of the text so they can set out some rules to guide themselves – a.k.a. the strategy. Learn more about the strategy I’ve applied.

Problem & Solution

The journey of translation is never smooth. Yet, problem never comes without solution. Find out the challenges I have gone through.

About

Acknowledgement

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor Mr. Kenneth Au for his encouraging support, valuable advice and exceptional meticulousness. His knowledge of culture and language contributes a lot to my translation of a piece of ‘very British’ travel writing. Our discussion on the translation and the commentary inspires me a lot. His dedication of patience and time spent on the supervisory of my project is especially appreciated.

Special thanks to my family and friends who always support me to achieve my goal.

Last but not least, I would like to express my greatest thankfulness to my Heavenly Father who always guides me in grace and love. Amen!

P.S. Also credits to the books, essays and stuffs by other scholars. I can’t make it without all of your contribution!
